Implicit in all conversations about decarbonising the energy grids is the need to vastly reduce demand. Reducing the need for heat and electricity in the home will also lead to multiple other social, economic and environmental benefits, as well as cost savings for individuals and society.
Despite the obvious advantages of decarbonising homes, doing this at any scale has proved a tough nut to crack. Householders interact with new technologies in (technically) unexpected ways; the need to retrofit and how best to go about it is fiendishly difficult to communicate; and trying to plan the retrofit of a home and find suppliers can be almost overwhelming for householders.
This IZCWG meeting will explore these topics in detail. The speakers leading the discussion will be:
- Monica Mateo Garcia from Birmingham City University
- Alex Wrigglesworth from Skilled Mapping
- Becky Lane from Furbnow
- Richard Bubb from the Sustainable Housing Action Partnership
The event will be hosted by Mott Macdonald at their offices on Livery Street, central Birmingham, on 24 January 2024. The meeting will officially run from 10 am – 12 noon, but you are invited to arrive from 9.30 and will be able to continue your discussions at the venue after 12.
As usual, there will be a roundtable and lots of time for discussion, so register and come prepared to share ideas, lessons, challenges and solutions!
