Midlands Connect identify, develop and recommend the strategic transport projects required for our region. They work with Government, Highways England, Network Rail and local partners to ensure the infrastructure our region needs is delivered.
Their current vision is to set out an investment programme that improves strategic connectivity between the East and West Midlands, better connects us with our neighbouring regions of the North of England and Wales and strengthens existing connectivity to the sough of England, our ports and airports. This strategic investment will be complemented by both improvements to local connectivity by our local authority partners and regional economic growth plans from the Midlands Engine, that will drive levelling-up both across our region and the country. Combined with the commitment to net-zero, this will make a significant contribution to UK wide prosperity and a carbon-neutral future.
They want to work closely with a range of partners to achieve this vision.
Sweco are preparing for bidding on Midlands Connect for their Specialist Technical Framework (six Lots in total) and will have strong representation on several of them where Sweco’s core capability in Transportation / Highways / planning and modelling can be utilised. They are looking to submit their proposal for Lot 6 for Advisory Services in Niche Specialisms – and would like to bring in regional SMEs in the following fields as follows:
1. Alternative fuel technology and infrastructure solutions; including electric vehicle charging
2. Land use modelling
3. ‘Big data’ analytics and presentation
4. Funding and finance for transport infrastructure; including aspects such as:
- Green financing
- Land value capture
5. Smart payment mechanisms; including aspects such as:
- ITSO
- Contactless
- Mobility as a service solutions
