Nasra Hagi Mohammed is a qualified and highly experienced midwife of many years standing. Nasra is passionate about supporting women and their families through the weeks before and after a birth, and this is demonstrated in her work as an NLP post-natal depression coach.
Nasra completed a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Wolverhampton in Adult Health/Nursing, as well as a BSC degree at Birmingham City University in Midwifery, which she completed in 2012. She went on to be a Theatre practitioner at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, before becoming a Midwife at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In 2019, Nasra set up her own business: Recognize Ltd.
Through her work as a nurse and a midwife, Nasra became aware of the struggle some women endured before, during and after pregnancy – often going unnoticed. She noticed that, if untreated, parental problems can lead to worsening mental health and even suicide. Her employment made her realise that there simply weren’t the resources available to tackle perinatal wellbeing, and so was determined to do something about it. “Recognize Ltd is my response to years of frustration and concern. Ultimately my aim is for every mom to have free coaching, paid for by the NHS. In the meanwhile, I’m providing a workplace wellbeing programme, and one-to-one coaching for perinatal women.”
Watch Nasra at SpeakUp Challenge Night speak about the “circle of childbirth”
“Nasra is one of those people who give you faith in humanity. She founded a project focuses on solving post-natal depression and FGM. It started with 1 to 1 coaching, and has now widened to tech solutions and collaborations and universities. When asked what she does when life is a struggle, she said: “I ask people if they need my help and do something for someone else.” Nasra, you are an inspiration.” – Sophie Clifford
