Female Founders Network

18 June 2020

This event is hosted by Barclays Eagle Lab, you can find the official event page here.

Julie, a former PE teacher, founded Move it or Lose it in 2010 in response to a lack of resources to help older people to be more active whatever their age or ability.

Julie has been celebrated for her work as a social entrepreneur, growing Move it or Lose it into a nationally recognised company helping older people to live more active, healthier, happier lives.

Julie has developed an award-winning range of exercise DVDs and authored a book for which she has won national recognition. She has appeared on TV, radio and writes regular columns for two national magazines aimed at the over 60s.

As collaborating partners with the Centre for Healthy Ageing Research at University of Birmingham, Move it or Lose it translates the latest research into practical applications. Julie has developed a CIMSPA endorsed training programme called FABS (Flexibility, Aerobic, Balance and Strength) combining exercises which are proven to reduce frailty and help people to live longer better.

Move it or Lose it has trained over 1,000 specialist instructors and hundreds of volunteers and staff for their charity partner, Royal Voluntary Service. Their national network of licensees deliver classes in community, care and NHS settings reaching hundreds of thousands of older people every week.

During the recent issues around the world, Julie’s business hit an instant stand-still and has to pivot and look at every opportunity to overcome the pressures of not being able to run physical classes, Julie has done this to keep the business going forward

Please join us to hear a very inspirational story which is about creating a business rather than losing a business.
