DATE AND TIME: 22nd September 2020, 10:00am-13:00
As part of the Industrial Strategy, the Government will invest in the “Prospering from the Energy Revolution” Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) to make the UK a global centre for integrated energy systems that deliver cleaner and cheaper energy. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), in collaboration with the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Ofgem, and KTN would like to invite you to join an online briefing event on the 22nd September 2020 to hear about the new funding competition, Modernising Energy Data Applications and how you can get involved.
Background: The world is embarking on a revolution in how energy is supplied. Over the coming decades, at least $2 trillion each year will be invested around the world in the transition to low carbon power, transport, heat and localised, digitally connected energy systems. The UK has world-leading energy and environmental researchers, businesses, policy, regulation, technologies, infrastructure and innovators. We believe that integrating these through a smart local energy systems approaches will give the UK the opportunity to develop an industry built around delivering new consumer-friendly energy services and markets that are cheaper, cleaner, flexible, and more resilient to environmental and social change.
The aim of this competition is to develop world leading data applications which will help to transform our local energy systems. We are looking for projects which use cutting edge techniques and user-centric approaches, combining energy data with data from other sectors to deliver better outcomes across local areas.
Building upon the work of the Modernising Energy Data Access competition and the wider Modernising Energy Data programme, we are looking to fund projects that demonstrate data can be intelligently utilised to improve people’s lives, optimise technology deployments, and boost investment opportunities across our local energy systems.
What is the opportunity? The £2m Modernising Energy Data Applications competition will accelerate the development of tools and processes that will revolutionise data services for the energy sector. The solutions developed should demonstrate that combining energy data with data sources from other sectors can deliver net zero energy systems more quickly, whilst creating substantial business opportunities for UK organisations.
The solutions should meet the needs of people within the energy sector and those of people from other sectors, to boost coordination and improve outcomes for net zero living across sectors.
The briefing events will include:
- an opportunity to hear about the scope of the competition in more detail
- opportunities to network and develop ideas and partnerships for the competition through the online networking platform
- an opportunity to share your ideas with UKRI, Ofgem and BEIS in one to one discussion
Online Networking: KTN are making their online networking platform, Meeting Mojo, available for those interested in this competition. If you want a subcontractor to join you in your project, you can use this platform to find the appropriate skills and request a 1:1 meeting with them after this briefing event, and/or send messages.
You can also use this platform to request 1:1 meetings with Innovate UK, BEIS and Ofgem, in relation to this competition.
