Our Smart Brum – The Big Brum Debate

12 May 2022

The Big Brum Debate – “How Can Technology Help Combat Air Pollution in Birmingham?” – an interactive debate with audience participation.

Our Smart Brum is BACK for the last event before the summer. We are throwing a spanner in the works and starting a debate. With the clean air charge, the rise in EV and impending transition to becoming a Smart City by 2030….

Can technology help to combat air pollution in Birmingham? If so, where do we start?

We will be covering the topics that become heated around the Birmingham water coolers (or Teams waiting rooms):

? The Birmingham Clean Air Charge

? Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs)

? Digbeth Pedestrianisation

? Public Transport in Birmingham

Do we need Tech to make these things suitable for EVERYONE?

Joining us as facilitators, knowledge hives and probers are:

? Kirsten De Vos from Campaign Group Mums For Lungs

? Chris Crean from Friends of the Earth

? Derren Creswell University of Birmingham

? William (Bill) Bloss from University of Birmingham
