KTN Global Alliance in strategic partnership with Innovate UK, UKRI Indiaand the Department for International Trade (DIT) will host a virtual Sustainable Fashion Global Expert Mission with India on 3 August 2021. Details for the event are below, or you can visit the official event page here.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has calculated the fashion industry produces 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions every year and it is estimated to use around 1.5 trillion litres of water annually.
In the UK, we buy more clothes per capita than any country in Europe and around 300,000 tonnes of used clothes are burned or buried in landfill each year. However, progress is already being made to combat these negative environmental impacts, with both larger companies phasing in ethical and environmentally responsible collections, and SMEs developing equally innovative disruptive solutions.
Addressing sustainability challenges in the fashion industry requires a global dialogue on how to encourage long-term transformations. In August 2021, Innovate UK and KTN Global Alliance, working closely with UKRI India and the Department for International Trade (DIT), will deliver a virtual Global Expert Mission to better understand the sustainable fashion landscape in India and help benchmark against UK capability. Scheduled to align with and feed into discussions at the most senior level, this Global Expert Mission will be a unique opportunity to explore the potential for collaborations between Britain, a fashion design leader, and India, an international textile and garment manufacturer, which will address environmental challenges, as well as socio-economically benefitting both nations.
As part of this Global Expert Mission, we invite you to join us for an open-audience session showcasing companies in both countries leading in this sector. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions. Presentations and conversations will span four challenge areas:
- Digitisation to address sustainability
- Sustainability supply chain and end-of-life solutions
- Inspiration from tradition
- Policy
We look forward to seeing you online!
